Fallout 4 Nukes Skyrim First Day Sales
RPG Maestros, Bethesda released Fallout 4 on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 7th to the glee of wastelanders worldwide.
A total of 12 million physical copies have been released to retailers worldwide and more units are being shipped to meet ongoing demand, according to Bethesda. While not all of these copies are in the hands of players, the total amount for the copies would represent more than $750 million. Retailers are also announcing that Fallout 4 is the most pre-ordered game of the year.
Bethesda’s other leading franchise is the Elder Scrolls Series. The most popular iteration of the series, Skyrim, sold 7 million copies the first 48 hours in 2011. The game’s sales have climbed to 20 million in early 2014.
While significant, the Fallout 4 launch is still dwarfed by other industry giant releases:
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 sold $800 million in the first day back in 2013. After 3 days, this total was more than $1 billion.
Shooter franchise juggernaut, Call of Duty released Call of Duty: Ghosts to net $1 billion in one day.
