Steam Police: The Holiday Sale Edition

Steam Police: The Holiday Sale Edition

The holidays are over, but that doesn’t mean the overdriven consumption of some of the finest digital delights needs to end! I can’t think of a better way to work off that hangover than to enjoy yet another installment of the Steam Police. Here’s just a few games that can be added to your Steam library for a reasonable price.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Earth is being invaded by alien forces and it’s your job to man an international team of elite fighters to stop them! Turn based strategy games have fallen out of style as real time RPG’s have mananged to seamlessly manange the rules, rolls and rampage behind the scenes. But that’s what makes XCOM such a unique treat. Turn based strategy is back and better than ever as you command your squad to smoosh, shoot and smash some alien brains for the good of mankind!

Just don’t get too attached to your heroes, if they die they are gone and all of their progressions. You won’t be forgotten, Hans…

Play if you like: Mars Attacks!, Dungeons and Dragons, green blood

Civilization 5: Complete Edition

For those who haven’t experienced it yet, Civ V is the flagship, turn based top down civilization simulator. Choose a nation and travel over a map to interact with other nations with the objective of dominion in this top down strategy game.

Building your civilization in the game is almost as difficult as trying to do so in real life, and gameplay is very nuanced. You’ll not only be building new cities and conquering others, but even researching which government policies to adopt.

Play if you like: History, 300, Axis and Allies

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Remember when neon color palates and cassette tapes were all the rage in the early 90’s? Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a throwback to that design scheme. But this isn’t a Lisa Frank folder with cuddly kittens because Hotline Miami throws twitchy top-down combat that will keep you riveted. Prepare to dive through the seedy underworld of Miami’s criminal syndicate!

Play if you like: GTA 2, Retro graphics, Killer game soundtracks

Grow Home

Cute, innocent robots and candy-crisp visuals are not things that steal my blackened heart, but Grow Home is too intriguing not to play! Platforming is back for me in a big way in this lighthearted visual game starring BUD, a lone droid trying to grow the mystical star plant to the sky (think Jack and the Beanstalk meets the Iron Giant) and capture the seeds to bring back to earth. Our lone bot hero is quite the climber in this fun trip through a cell shaded realm in the sky and can’t wait to dig in more!

Play if you like: Wall-E, Cute Robots in peril, Mario Galaxy
