E3 2016: Chris' Predictions
It's that time of the year once again where everyone is glued to their prospective gaming news site to take in all of the announcements and other reveals from E3. It's shaping up to be a big year at the industry's most important convention but I've got a list of predictions that I hope/want to come true. No, Aliens: Colonial Marines 2 did not make the cut.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Even though after all these years I still have yet to finish the original masterpiece, I'm super pumped for Red Dead 2. The original game is still my favorite Rockstar title even with how fantastic GTAV was. There is something so exciting about being able to ride around the countryside getting into all manners of trouble as a desperado or bounty hunter for hire. I'm expecting this will be the centerpiece of Rockstar's week and hopefully fast tracked for a Q4 2016 release.
More Injustice 2
The original Injustice hasn't aged particularly well primarily due to how fantastic MKX was. However, Injustice 2 has been rumored since the first came out, and ahead of E3, a poster was leaked outing the game. With the cat out of the bag, NetherRealm released not only a reveal trailer but also a gameplay video as well. While the graphics aren't much to look at yet, the introduction of more fan favorite characters like Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus has gotten me buying into the hype and hoping for a roster reveal at E3 this week.
While not exactly a new trend remasters have become a regular occurrence since the next-gen consoles were released back in 2013. The field has become crowded with remasters of everything from the entire Uncharted franchise sans the newest game to a wholly unnecessary port of Saints Row IV. It feels like a cash grab to some extent it really is, even if the remastered games are fantastic in their own right. This year's E3 will be rife with remasters of classic titles and hopefully we can finally get that remaster of Bomberman Zero that I have been waiting so patiently for years for.
I'm not a huge fan of the fact that Nintendo is going to be releasing a new system within the next year or for that matter Sony or Microsoft. However, Nintendo is the worst offender here because the Wii U never felt like a truly realized concept from the get go. It had less than ten titles that were of true substantial value and to make matters worse a fair number of the anticipated titles were delayed. Unless the NX has something to offer in the way of exclusive titles or killer tech, the NX may be another massive misstep for the legendary company. I'd hate to compare the Wii U to Sega's Dreamcast but if the NX doesn't manage to right the ship, it may be just that.
No E3 rumor list would be complete without the obligatory Half-Life 3 plug. But, seriously, it's the year 2016 and if you minus 50 from 53 (Gabe Newell's age) you get three, so that must mean it's coming out right? Or maybe if you minus 1998 (the year Half-Life was released) from 2016, you get 18. Then divide 18 by 6 (the number of face tentacles a headcrab has) to get 3, which must mean it's confirmed!
Seriously this game is coming out.
