Weird News of The Day: Sony Wants a 'Men In Black' and '21 Jump Street' Crossover

Weird News of The Day: Sony Wants a 'Men In Black' and '21 Jump Street' Crossover

Given the massive success of 22 Jump Street, a sequel seemed inevitable. A crossover with the Men In Black franchise, was not. However, The Hollywood Reporter states the following after last week's major Sony email hacking:

Emails from Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal released as part of the leak discuss the possibility of merging the successful comedy franchise with the studio’s Men in Black franchise, last seen in 2012’s Men in Black 3. The Wall Street Journal quotes an email from Hill to Pascal calling the idea “clean and rad and powerful,” although Columbia Pictures production president Hannah Minghella points out that ‘we don’t have a script yet so we’ll be greenlighting the movie off the concept and the talent involved.’

Phil Lord and Chris Miller would return to direct the franchise, although it appears that the leading men of the MIB franchise, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, would not. The third Men In Black film was critically successful and made over $600 million worldwide, despite the numerous issues during production. While an unexpected move, this could be a breath of fresh air for both franchises, and apparently the satirical credits of 22 Jump Street are closer to reality than we once thought.
