Yashar Pirasteh’s Most Anticipated Films of 2015

Posted in The Screening Room by - December 30, 2014

2015 promises to be one of the most jam packed and memorable years in film in recent memory (although 2014 was no slouch). Having combed through several lists of the new releases in the upcoming year, I wanted to briefly touch upon the five films I am looking most forward to in this upcoming year.

1. Avengers: Age of Ultron: Probably the most obvious pick on this list, Avengers: Age of Ultron is the next soon to be mega hit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve had about one real trailer for it, and it looks incredible. While dealing with one of the most iconic Avengers villains of all time in Ultron, this film should also set up Marvel’s ambitious Phase 3. Plus, who doesn’t want to see the Vision on the big screen?

2. Jupiter Ascending: Confession time….I loved Cloud Altas, the Wachowski’s polarizing last film. Ever since their Matrix films, they’ve yet to achieve that previous level of success; however, they are constantly pushing the envelope, especially visually, and cannot be accused of lacking originality. This sci-fi epic stars Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in a universe spanding tale. There were rumors of production issues that led to its delay from 2014 to 2015, but every trailer I see for it gets me more and more excited. At the least, the special effects look incredible.

3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens: As a fan of the prequels, I was stoked when J.J. Abrams was handed the keys to the new film. While I have some issue with his television shows, the man knows how to make a good product. The first teaser was released about a month ago, and I can only hope this upcoming film carries on my favorite film series proudly. We’ve yet to see footage of the original cast in action, but I’m sure more will be revealed about the new Star Wars film in the upcoming months.

4. Tomorrowland: This is the dark horse of my picks. Other than a very brief teaser that tells nothing about the film, Tomorrowland’s talent is what intrigues me the most. Directed by Brad Bird, of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol fame, among others, this film is based on the Disney theme park, but stars George Clooney. I honestly have no idea what it’s about, other than it involves the futuristic setting of Tomorrowland. The mystery that surrounds this film has me hooked, and I hope it won’t let me down.

5. Fifty Shades of Grey: To be frank, I’m not actually looking forward to this film and was being facetious in this selection. Not having read the books but knowing the premise, this film sounds like an absolute train wreck. Although, if the buzz is positive enough, I may brave the crowds of swooning ladies to sneak a peak myself. Most likely scenario: I give this the Twilight treatment and pretends it’s a carrier of the plague by avoiding it completely.
