Sony and Valiant Entertainment Agree on 5 Picture Deal
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Valiant Entertainment has reached agreement with Sony on a five picture deal for several of their properties, with the directors of John Wick directing the Bloodshot adaptation.
They are doing the full connected universe thing that's all the rage, and I have to say that I'm intrigued to see how this ends up. The details are reported below, from Comic Vine:
Given that people who have worked on massive franchises like the Fast and Furious are working on these films, I'd like to think this gives a boost to the credibility of taking these relatively unknown properties and adapting them for the masses. While five pictures is hardly a life changing commitment, it shows some gall on Sony's part in that they're pretty confident in what they're doing. Let's hope this goes better than their Spider-Man plans.
While comics have been adapted from non Marvel and DC publishers to film in the past, this is the biggest uniform movement by an independent publisher I can recall. I haven't read any of Valiant's books since their recent relaunch, but most of the buzz on them has been good. Hopefully, these films do well, so we can see more independent properties adapted onto the big screen. The talent they've managed to acquire behind the scenes appears impressive.
