“Give Every Man Thy Ear, But Few Thy Voice”: Our Look at Shakespeare-inspired Films

Posted in The Screening Room by - July 01, 2016

Shakespeare is one of the world’s great playwrights whose work has inspired countless film; some fantastic, others not so much. The Bard’s works have been the basis for imitation and creativity with many directors and screenwriters trying their hand at the master’s work. From Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet to the existential crisis Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, the interpretations vary from faithful to wholly original. This month we’ll be taking a broad look at some of those interpretations and seeing how the Bard’s work has inspired so many to craft truly epic fiction.

Along with films inspired by Shakespeare’s works, we’ll be looking at the controversial and maligned Ghostbusters remake.
