WWE Smackdown 3/12/2015 Recap: Yea, You're a Turd Bro
As of late, everything the WWE touches (minus NXT) has been mediocre and that is extraordinarily unfortunate as they try to build momentum toward Wrestlemania 31. However, last night's Smackdown showed us glimpses of what the WWE writers are capable of and it was actually fun to watch.
We start Smackdown with some promos and posturing from the Intercontinental Title Ladder Match. Daniel Bryan announces his entrance into the match and this is something I'm excited for. Bryan has continuously put on good performances and knows how to work. More importantly, he's probably one of the funnest wrestlers to watch right now. This posturing could only end in a brawl and so we see Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, and Dean Ambrose throw Bad News Barrett, Stardust, and Luke Harper out of the ring as R-Truth once again makes off with the Intercontinental Championship.
8 Man Tag Team
Tyson Kidd and Cesaro are the Tag Team Champions, but the division as a whole right now is pretty wide open. However, as relevent as the WWE wants to make Los Matadores heading into Wrestlemania its not going to help. Their characters are pretty lame and you can tell they're stressing their voices for the characters. I'm sure if you ran into them on the streetm out of character ,they'd probably sound like Mickey Mouse.
The 8 Man Tag Team match consisted of The USOs & The New Day versus Tyson Kidd & Cesaro & Los Matadores. The match as whole was rather chaotic as an 8 Man Tag Team should be, but in the end, after numerous interferences, Los Matadores grab the cover.
Ryback vs The Miz
Ryback is quickly becoming one of my favorite wrestlers right now, and if I had to pick someone to win the Andre "The Giant" Memorial Battle Royale, it's Ryback. His "no quit" attitude and character is infectious and he's proven himself as of late, especially whenever he faces an Authority opponent.
The Miz is providing me with a headache. Every match he is in, we see glimpses of the talent that got him to headline Wrestlemania. However, his character is so full of himself that he probably won't win a match until he loses in the inevitable The Miz vs. Mizdow match.
The match itself was pretty straight forward with an incredible vertical Suplex by Ryback, followed up with a Shellshock and the cover for the win. Also, Damian Mizdow was watching and laughing backstage, which provided more great fuel for the, again inevitable, The Miz vs. Mizdow match.
Roman Reigns Promo
This was actually a rather telling piece, since we're apparently trudging towards Wrestlemania instead of sprinting. Reigns came out to rebuttle the Paul Hayman remarks from Raw. However, the important part of this promo was that the The World's Strongest Man came out and told Reigns something he honestly needs to hear.
The promo ends in a Superman Punch, spearing Henry into the barricade and a large "I Can" bit from Reigns standing on top of the commentator's table. Regardless of Henry selling out to the "Believe That" movement later on in the night. The commentary by Henry on Reigns' lack of character and respect from the locker room is pure gold.
Divas Tag Team
Here we have AJ Lee & Paige versus Summer Rae & Cameron. This was the first Divas match I've enjoyed in a long while. There was some serious savagery and display of talent from AJ Lee and Paige. That PTO, probably my favorite submission right now.
The match itself was pretty straight forward, Lee & Paige handily put away Summer Rae & Cameron via the PTO, and the drama between Nikki Bella and Paige at the end only fuels the fire between them.
6 Man Tag Team
This match features Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, and Dolph Ziggler versus Bad News Barret, Stardust, and Luke Harper. It's a revisit to the brawl we saw at the beginning of the night, but with a little more "order".
This match showcased Bryan's resilience which has already been established since his return. This may be a telling sign that the WWE plans to have Bryan win the Intercontinental Title. I honestly don't have a problem with this, as long as it's accomplished in entertaining fashion. One can only hope.
After a brief brawl that the "Lunatic Fringe" Ambrose mops up, Harper gives Ziggler a bit of a beating. Ziggler escapes to the corner and Bryan tags in. Bryan connects on a dropkick and lands the cover for the win.
All in all it was a good fun match. However, for some reason Ziggler and Ambrose decide to do a turn on Bryan, calling him a "show stealer" and a "Turd". Skip to the 2 minute mark.
Looking back on last night, Smackdown was legitimately entertaining, and hopefully this continues into Raw.
